Mindfulness can be described as the practice of paying attention in the present moment, sensing and feeling without interpretation or judgment. Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress.

Three of the main components of mindfulness include:

  1. Intention to cultivate awareness (and return to it repeatedly)
  2. Attention to what is occurring in the present moment (simply observing thoughts, feelings, sensations as they arise)
  3. Attitude that is non-judgmental, curious, and kind
